Bobbi Kristina and Her “Brother” Get Close
So there are tons of reports running rampant this weekend that Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, is in a relationship with Nick Gordon. Nick happens to be Whitney’s unofficially adopted son. He had some family trouble about 10 years ago, so Whitney took him in and reportedly treated him as her own. He became a part of the family. In recent weeks, Bobbi Kristina and Nick have been photographed holding hands and kissing, in other words, being a couple. Nick even posted the photo you see here on his Twitter page. So now the big question…is it wrong?
I’m not so sure. Like I said, we know he’s not blood relation. And although “reports” are that Whitney may have treated him like a son, I believe she obviously didn’t consider him a real son b/c he was left nothing in the will. And how do we know what their relationship was before Whitney died? Bobbi Kristina kept a very private life and no one truly payed attention to her until after her mother died. Maybe this was the norm at the Houston house? Although TMZ did report a story this weekend that the couple broke the news to friends who were shocked. True? Not true? Who knows? I say, she’s 19, her mother just died and she’s seeking comfort in a close friend. Let the girl be. Tell me what you think.
BREAKING NEWS: OWN Cancels ROSIE
OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, has just announced that it’s cancelling the talk show hosted by comedian Rosie O’Donnell, “The Rosie Show.” The show will tape its final episode on Tuesday, March 20th.
A release issued by OWN said: “I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day,” said Oprah Winfrey. “As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.”
In the release, Rosie O’Donnell went on to say: “I loved working with Oprah in the amazing city of Chicago.” She added, “I was welcomed with open arms and will never forget the kindness of all I encountered. It was a great year for me – I wish the show was able to attract more viewers – but it did not. So I am headed back to my home in New York – with gratitude. On we go!”
Billboard’s Top Music Money Makers of 2012
So is your favorite on the list? Billboard magazine is releasing its list of the biggest music money makers in 2012. Some are expected, others are a surprise (especially the amount of money #1 pulls in). I think I’m goin’ country, ya’ll. Take a look…
#10 – ADELE, $13,081,909
Forget “Rolling In The Deep,” this British beauty is rolling in the dough. And get this, she didn’t even get to complete her tour because of her throat issues and she still pulled in mega bucks! Love me some, Adele.
#9 – JASON ALDEAN, $13,409,011
Ok, so can anyone tell me who Jason Aldean is? Yeah, I didn’t know either. Some country dude, but apparently someone knows him b/c he earned almost as much as Adele and everyone knows her.
#8 – CELINE DION, $14,261,515
Celine’s Vegas show is helping bring in the bug bucks… Her 2007 album sold more than 300,000 copies in 2011, plus nearly a million downloads of her music.
#7 – BON JOVI, $15,835,856
Bon Jovi is iconic. No wonder they are in the Top 10. They have been merchandising like crazy with videos, downloads and more, all stemming from last year’s tour, “The Circle.”
Behind The Scenes with Rosie O’Donnell
On Windy City LIVE today, we were very lucky to have Rosie O’Donnell as our special guest for the hour. But it didn’t start off so smoothly.
Rosie was caught in traffic. Chicago traffic is a nightmare and Rosie learned that the hard way this morning. As show time approached, Rosie was no where in sight. Thankfully, she is a prolific Twitterer. She started tweeting us updates. “Oy in traffic – 6 mins says opera rap star driver Khary Laurent.” Followed by, “cutting it close -fear not I am camera ready in an odd orange frock…”
So we had to formulate a back-up plan. We had this elaborate open planned. We put together a great skit on tape that culminated in Mark DeCarlo running into the studio and cue-ing a singer to begin. The singer joins the chorus (The Chicago Red Line) and the song ends with Rosie walking on stage. Well, no Rosie, no song, so we had the hosts vamp a little. The show begins and I’m waiting in the lobby for Rosie. Producer David Plummer is waiting outside. News crews are gathered hoping to get a sound bite with Rosie (who just landed an exclusive sit down with Patty Blagojevitch). There was no way that was happening. We had to get her in studio. We had a microphone waiting. All we needed was Rosie…
franklyHANK in Uluru
G’day, all! I just recently left Uluru in the outback of Australia and what a magical place that is. Uluru is also known as Ayers Rock and it’s a sacred place for the Aboriginal people. It’s the world’s largest smooth-skinned monolith. Even more fascinating, only a small fraction of Uluru is above ground. It extends for another 3 miles below the surface. Our guide had a great analogy. Imagine a water bottle. The cap is Uluru and the rest of the bottle is Uluru below the ground. CRAZY! Here is a shot of Uluru at sunrise. I love this picture. CLICK ON IT TO MAKE IT BIGGER.
Here is a close up of Uluru at sunset the day before. You can really see the patterns in the rock.
If you tour Uluru you are bound to see some cave art from the aborigines people. This picture below is believed to have been drawn about a one thousand years ago. And it’s still standing. Don’t ask me what it means, please. LOL
Last, but not least, thanks to a recommendation from Ji Suk Yi, I attended the SOUNDS OF SILENCE dinner at Uluru. It’s champagne during sunset, a candlelit dinner while you chat with the people at your table and then the candles are blown out and every one star gazes. My photo below (click on it to make it bigger) doesn’t even come close to comprehending what we saw in the sky that night. I could see the Milky Way galaxy. I could see gas clouds in outer space. I could see stars that I didn’t even know existed. I saw at least three shooting stars. I saw satellites orbiting the planet. The sky was so amazingly clear. Our guides said we were there on a great night and I feel blessed to have been able to experience that. So look at the picture below, multiply it by a thousand or even ten thousand and you won’t come close to what we saw. I wish I had my tripod b/c I would have been able to take better shots of the stars. Live and learn.
A few more pics on the ULURU page, so check it out. Off to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef.
franklyHANK in SYDNEY
Crickey, mate! I’ve been so busy hopping around Sydney that I didn’t have time to post pics. Australia is BEU-TI-FUL! But food is pricey… $18 for a hamburger. $5 for a Coke. And those are Aussie prices. The US $ conversion makes it a little more. Crazy. The cheapest house in Sydney will set you back $600,000… that’s the cheapest!!! Check out this amazing city scape. How can you not love this? (click on it to make it bigger)
Of course, here is a tighter shot below of the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge… the Sydney Opera House is the most photographed building in all of Australia.
No trip to Sydney is complete without a trip to Bondi Beach… pronounced bond-eye. Women can actually go topless on the beach… and it’s a surfer’s paradise…
And I, uhm, didn’t quite realize what I was shooting when I took this pic of surfers below. Definitely a full moon in the water. Oops!
I will post more pics on the SYDNEY page, but I had to share this cuddly photo. Which one is cuter? Me or the koala? If you say the koala, you are dead to me! That’s rain on me, by the way, not koala pee.
Funny side note, only in the Australian state of Queensland can you actually hold a koala bear. It’s a state law. I hope to do that when I head to Cairns in a few days. Alice Springs photos coming soon…
franklyHANK in Hawaii – Day 2
Monday started off very rainy in Waikiki. It actually rained most of the day, but I did manage to get to the North Shore of the island and see the only part of Oahu I had not seen on previous trips. The North Shore is surfer’s paradise. Huge waves. You could see guys hangin’ ten everywhere. This is definitely the surfing community of Oahu and Honolulu. Check out a few pics below and a few more on the Hawaii page (scroll the bottom). As I write this I am waiting to board my flight to Sydney… Australia bound, baby! Remember, you can click on any pic to see a larger version.
franklyHANK in HAWAII
So the Aussie Adventure begins, but first, with a stop in Hawaii. I’m on a layover here for 3 days. So glad I did this. The flight is extra long. Four hours from Chicago to LA. Five hours from LA to Honolulu and it will be 10 hours to Sydney from Honolulu. So, yes, a break was needed. I have taken several pics on my first day on Oahu. I’ve also created a HAWAII page. I’ll create a page for each city I venture to with more pics of my goings on there. You can also click on any photo for a better view.
Here you can see a shot of a banyan tree. They are all around Hawaii. I love the way the branches intricately weave around each other. Believe it or not, this is just one tree in Queen Kapiolani Regional Park outside the Honolulu Zoo. There are more pictures on the HAWAII page.
Also in the park, is this statue of Gandhi. Yes, everyone gets leised in Hawaii. Even Gandhi.
And finally, I went whale watching today for humpback whales. It’s migration season. It was a gorgeous day, but the whales were hiding. They would come up here and there and I saw the back of one briefly. I did manage to get this shot. Yes, it’s a whale. I have no idea if it’s a baby that was hanging around us or the mama whale… but it’s a whale… and that’s my tale! More pics on the HAWAII page.
