Billboard’s Top Music Money Makers of 2012
So is your favorite on the list? Billboard magazine is releasing its list of the biggest music money makers in 2012. Some are expected, others are a surprise (especially the amount of money #1 pulls in). I think I’m goin’ country, ya’ll. Take a look…
#10 – ADELE, $13,081,909
Forget “Rolling In The Deep,” this British beauty is rolling in the dough. And get this, she didn’t even get to complete her tour because of her throat issues and she still pulled in mega bucks! Love me some, Adele.
#9 – JASON ALDEAN, $13,409,011
Ok, so can anyone tell me who Jason Aldean is? Yeah, I didn’t know either. Some country dude, but apparently someone knows him b/c he earned almost as much as Adele and everyone knows her.
#8 – CELINE DION, $14,261,515
Celine’s Vegas show is helping bring in the bug bucks… Her 2007 album sold more than 300,000 copies in 2011, plus nearly a million downloads of her music.
#7 – BON JOVI, $15,835,856
Bon Jovi is iconic. No wonder they are in the Top 10. They have been merchandising like crazy with videos, downloads and more, all stemming from last year’s tour, “The Circle.”
#6 – SADE, $16,382,809
WHAT? SADE? The sultry singer made a HUGE come-back not only with her “Soldier of Love” album in 2010, but also the tour in 2011 that featured singer John Legend as her opening act. The 59-city tour was a huge success and SADE proved she still has it.
#5 – LIL WAYNE, $23,178,122
2.7 million album sales, 12.3 million digital tracks sold, and a tour grossing $44.7 million, no wonder Lil Wayne is bringing in big buck at #5.
#4 – LADY GAGA, $25,353,039
Lady G was #1 last year and drops three places, but ain’t no reason to cry for her b/c she still sold 2.8 million albums, 12.7 million digital tracks and a tour grossing $51.4 million.
#3 – KENNY CHESNEY, $29,837,103
A new album, huge album sales and download, and a hot tour (plus sponsorships, DVDs and more), makes Kenny Chesney country’s #1 man. Yee ha!!!!
#2 – U2, $32,116,315
U2 sold the least amount of albums and downloads compared to the other money makers, but their 360° tour pulled in a whopping $91.5 million in 2011. Now that’s impressive.
#1 – TAYLOR SWIFT, $35,719,902
At just 22 years old, Swift tops the money makers. Hey “Speak Now” album and tour grossed $88.5 million in the US alone. One thing that greatly helped Swift was her songwriting royalties. She wrote all 14 songs on her “Speak Now.” And once again, she is only 22!!! At 22, I was…hell, I don’t even remember 22!
