BREAKING NEWS: OWN Cancels ROSIE
OWN, the Oprah Winfrey Network, has just announced that it’s cancelling the talk show hosted by comedian Rosie O’Donnell, “The Rosie Show.” The show will tape its final episode on Tuesday, March 20th.
A release issued by OWN said: “I thank Rosie from the bottom of my heart for joining me on this journey. She has been an incredible partner, working to deliver the best possible show every single day,” said Oprah Winfrey. “As I have learned in the last 15 months, a new network launch is always a challenge and ratings grow over time as you continue to gather an audience. I’m grateful to Rosie and the dedicated Rosie Show team for giving it their all.”
In the release, Rosie O’Donnell went on to say: “I loved working with Oprah in the amazing city of Chicago.” She added, “I was welcomed with open arms and will never forget the kindness of all I encountered. It was a great year for me – I wish the show was able to attract more viewers – but it did not. So I am headed back to my home in New York – with gratitude. On we go!”

It was a great show but shifting the Oprah show and Rosie to dinner time here in the Chicago area was a big mistake. As much as I like both Rosie and Oprah I don’t always remember to turn the show on when I am getting dinner. Why not put these shows back on during the daytime so that those of us at home will once again have quality programs.
So sorry, Rosie, but I had a bad feeling when you switched to the new format….thanks for the swag…and we had a great time at the show we did go to in October…O, maybe you should have bought some soap operas???
JoAnn–you couldn’t be more correct–I believe Rosie’s show failure was mostly due to the time slot. Her loyal daytime viewers from before, still would be there for her, but NOT at 6pm. I was fortunate enough to get to go to her first opening show in Chicago back in October and the energy in the studio was great. We were all so excited to be there. Then, I as a stay-at-home-mom hardly watched her show. NOT because I didn’t want to, but 6pm is when we’re getting dinner together and I’m watching local news. Such a bummer.
Good luck Rosie, Chicago will miss you!
Sorry to see Rosie Go – the OWN network is struggling. The Oprah show offerered quality viewing and her shows were impactful. Oprah, look into her heart and gave her viewers her genuine self. That’s why we all watched The Oprah Show. You made us better, encouraged us to go into the world and make a positive impact. Bring shows to OWN that do the same and the struggle for viewership is over. Best wishes to Rosie and the Oprah Team.
Well…..we sure wish the OWN Network was in HD TV. But we really don’t care that Rosie is leaving. I never heard anyone talk about her show….but we sure have heard lots of good things about The Windy City LIVE Show that took Oprah’s time-slot….great Chicago Show!! Woohoo!!! YOU GO W.C.L.
not agree with Rosey’s lifestyle, but i’m sorry to see her go! She is a person with A KIND AND CARING HEART.
She keeps blaming low ratings on the “stars” not wanting to come to Chicago! They always came out for Oprah! I enjoyed Rosie show on satellite radio but never had a chance to actually watch it more than once or twice! As for Oprah, not everyone will tune into her show/network when they have hundreds of others to choose from! Bad idea to move to cable! Besides, I think people are burned out on Oprah! I know I am! She’s too narcissistic; I mean really, who plasters their own face on every single magazine cover!? Oh yeah, Oprah!
