Weekly Wrap-Up for June 10, 2012

So with all of my other duties working on Windy City LIVE, writing this blog has been nearly impossible.  Yet, I love it.  Therefore I have decided to write an entertainment wrap up once a week with my take on all of the pop culture and celeb news from the week.  When big news breaks (or when I feel like it), I’ll write other columns, but for now… here we go…

HEADS UP, GAGA!

Lady G was in New Zealand for her latest tour and got smacked in the head with a pole by one of her dancers.  Ouch!  She ended up with a concussion, but finished the show anyway.  I’m hoping it smacked some fashion sense into her.  Get rid of the weird costumes, you freak!  You have talent.  You don’t need all of that.  The video of her get smacked was on YouTube, but the owner took it down.  He probably got offered big bucks by one of the networks to do so.  I’m sure it will be popping up tomorrow on some show.

LOOK OUT FOR LINDSAY

Lindsay Lohan is doing well after wrecking her rented Porshe on Friday as she was driving to set of her new movie on the life of Liz Taylor.  Here’s the really stupid part.  Lindsay had a limo to pick her up and bring her to the set, but she refused it on Friday when he arrived, so she and her assistant drove the Porsche as the limo followed.  DUMB!  Then she totals the car and tries to blame the truck for cutting her off.  No dice, Lindsay.  In almost every rear end case (don’t quote me on this), the driver who rear ends is cited for failure to follow at a proper distance and failure to maintain control.  Lindsay says her brakes failed.  I think her common sense failed.  Again.  Grow up, child.  Follow the rules and you’ll see that life gets much better.

AIR YEEZY 2 IS THE HEEZY

Ok, I get it.  People like sneakers.  And they like sneakers attributed to rock stars and athletes.  But Kanye West’s new Air Yeezy 2 sneakers retail for $245 and before they were released they were selling for $90,000 on ebay.  I’m sure the bids were fake and Kanye’s reps were probably behind the ebay bidding war, but really, people.  THEY ARE SNEAKERS!!!  Do you know how many pairs of Pumas I can get for $245???  I don’t get it, but that’s just me.

CHIPPENDALES JOEY LAWRENCE = YES, LAWD!

Former Blossom star Joey Lawrence is doing a limited run in the famous all-male Chippendales review in Las Vegas.  He made his debut Friday.  Let me just say, “Book me on the next plane to Vegas!!!”  Whew.  Now if all child stars could turn out that good!  Are you listening, Corey Feldman???

SEE IT:  SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN

I finally got around to seeing the new Snow White flick.  LOVED IT!  The art direction and the cinematography rock.  Charlize Theron is brilliant as the evil queen and I didn’t even mind Kristen Stewart as Snow White (although she does come across as her Twilight character at times).  Excellent summer flick and well worth it.  Check it out.

Last but not least… tune in every Monday to see me on WINDY CITY LIVE on ABC7 in Chicago.  You can also watch it online at windycitylive.com

Billboard’s Top Music Money Makers of 2012

So is your favorite on the list? Billboard magazine is releasing its list of the biggest music money makers in 2012.  Some are expected, others are a surprise (especially the amount of money #1 pulls in).  I think I’m goin’ country, ya’ll.  Take a look…

#10 – ADELE, $13,081,909

Forget “Rolling In The Deep,” this British beauty is rolling in the dough.  And get this, she didn’t even get to complete her tour because of her throat issues and she still pulled in mega bucks!  Love me some, Adele.

#9 – JASON ALDEAN, $13,409,011

Ok, so can anyone tell me who Jason Aldean is?  Yeah, I didn’t know either.  Some country dude, but apparently someone knows him b/c he earned almost as much as Adele and everyone knows her.

#8 – CELINE DION, $14,261,515

Celine’s Vegas show is helping bring in the bug bucks… Her 2007 album sold more than 300,000 copies in 2011, plus nearly a million downloads of her music.

#7 – BON JOVI, $15,835,856

Bon Jovi is iconic.  No wonder they are in the Top 10. They have been merchandising like crazy with videos, downloads and more, all stemming from last year’s tour, “The Circle.”

BUY THIS! Adele – Live At The Royal Albert Hall

Adele fans can rejoice b/c on Tuesday, November 29, Adele is back with a live concert DVD/Blu-ray and album that is truly something magical.  “ADELE – Live At The Royal Albert Hall” was filmed live on September 22, 2011 to promote her best-selling album, “21,” but it also shows us a side of the British singer that most of us have never seen.

In the concert, Adele is sincere, honest, laugh out loud funny and very, very bawdy!  In fact, she curses like a sailor (“Royal Albert f***ing Hall”), but you have to love her honesty.  Adele writes songs about her failed relationships and she not only sings them beautifully (and that’s an understatement), she also tells us the stories behind the music.  It’s sometimes sad, but always moving.  None more so than when she sings her hit, “Someone Like You.”  The audience is brought to its feet and Adele is brought to tears, confessing that the whole experience inside the Royal Albert Hall is a bit much for her.  Fortunately, we have a front row seat hearing Adele sing some of her biggest songs (“Chasing Pavements,” “Turning Tables,” Rolling In The Deep”) and even a few covers including Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love” (which she dedicated to her late friend, Amy Winehouse).

In a special feature on the DVD/Blu-ray entitled, “You, Me and Albert,” Adele brings us into her world and shares with us her excitement to be performing in one of London’s top performance halls (the best in her opinion).  She goes on to say that she is always nervous before a show and if she throws up before a concert then she knows it will be “bloody brilliant.”

Best of all, the DVD/Blu-ray comes with a CD of the concert so you can take this fantastic performance with you where ever you go… plus the CD is totally free of Adele’s potty mouth… no expletives, just exceptional music from an exceptional artist.  Check out the trailer below and get “Adele – Live At The Royal Albert Hall” today!

Christina! Oh, Christina! What Have You Done?

Credit: WENN

I love me some Christina Aguilera.  I make no bones about that, but damn girl!!!  This photo is from the weekend when X-tina performed at the Michael Jackson tribute concert in the UK.   She looks HUGE!   I’m hoping it’s the camera angle and not the snack table that makes Christina look like a house instead of a powerhouse.

GLEE Star Going On The Road

If you thought GLEE star Matthew Morrison a/k/a Mr. Schuester sings too much on the hit Fox show, well, he’s about to sing a whole lot more when the show goes on break!

Morrison is releasing a solo album and going on tour.  “I’m gonna go all over the world actually. I start band rehearsal in two weeks when we go on our little Christmas break,” he tells Entertainment Weekly.  Morrison says his solo project is due in May.  “I’m really really happy with it and I can’t wait for people to hear it as well.”

Meanwhile, the cast of GLEE is taking its hugely successfull concert show to the UK and Ireland ths summer.  So if you missed it stateside, it’s time to hop across the pond.
